If
you are looking for a big, beautiful, friendly and gentle feline
companion, the Norwegian Forest Cat is an excellent choice!
Norwegian Forest Cat History
Originating in Norway more than 1000 years ago, these gorgeous cats
are thought to be descendants of the
Siberian Cat from Russia and
the Turkish Angora Cat, with some Scottish wild cat blood mixed in for
good measure.
Norwegian Forest Cat Appearance
The Norwegian Forest Cat has a thick, wooly undercoat
beneath it's long, water proof outer coat that allowed it to survive
the harsh Northern climate in which it has existed for centuries.
This breed loves to climb, and is also reported to be a natural
fisherman. (Keep an eye on the goldfish tank!)
Norwegian Forest Cat Temperament and Personality
Sociable and amiable
creatures, Norwegian Forest Cats love busy households filled with
people, kids, dogs and other pets. They love to keep busy, and will
gladly follow you around to supervise the washing, vacuuming,
dusting, sewing and other household chores.

Norwegian Forest Cat Appearance and Physical Characteristics
Weighing anywhere from 8
to 18 pounds, Norwegian Forest Cats are big and sturdy, with strong
back legs that are slightly longer than their front legs. They have
lovely furry tufts between their toes, and at the tips of their
widely-spaced ears, and a fabulously furry tail that is carried
majestically behind them wherever they go. The exotic almond-shaped
eyes can range in color from deep green to dazzling gold, and some
white cats even have blue or odd-colored eyes. The gorgeous coat
comes in a wide range of shades and patterns.
Norwegian Forest Cat Grooming
Grooming requirements
are usually moderate - a good brushing every few days does the job
nicely (occasional heavy shedding does occur - especially with cats
who are allowed outdoors). For a healthy, hardy and loveable lug of
a cat that is both beautiful and exotic looking, the Norwegian
Forest Cat surely fits the bill!
